Incorrect subsequent spelling of Muletia Gray, 1874. CONTEXT AND CONTENT. Order Cingulata, family Dasypodidae, subfamily Dasypodinae, genus Dasypus. Within the genus Dasypus, Wetzel et al. (2008) recognized 7 living species: Dasypus novemcinctus, which occurs both in the Nearctic and the Neotropics; and 6 Neotropical species, D. hybridus, D. kappleri, D. pilosus, D. sabanicola, D. septemcinctus, and D. yepesi. However, Castro et al. (2015) recently suggested that D. pilosus should be reassigned to the genus Cryptophractus Fitzinger, 1856. Synonymy is modified from Wetzel et al. (2008).
