A year ago a global odyssey began, the causes of which are still unknown today. Despite the grandiose and arduous obtaining of various publications reviewed by the scientific community that promote the concrete possibility, the hypothesis of a laboratory acquired infection (LAI) as the origin of SARS-CoV-2 is constantly demolished, in a targeted or passive way, to the point of being passed off as a ridiculous conspiracy theory by most news sources. Thus, the world is left at the mercy of the enormous potential dangers of gain-of-function (GOF) experiments, increasingly dangerous and difficult to control, leaving only to posterity the arduous judgment on our work. This article is the result of all the most important elements collected in one year, and aims to extend a debate to civil society that currently interests only a small circle of scientists. Happy reading to anyone curious to learn more about the topic without feeling in danger of becoming a flat-earther.
