Johann Friedrich Reichardt

Authors: Ruf, Wolfgang;

Johann Friedrich Reichardt

Abstract

Reichardt was a well-known musician, composer and publicist. After a rapid career as Royal Prussian Court Kapellmeister and intensive creative work, he showed open sympathies for the French Revolution in his journalistic activities and was therefore dismissed. Thereupon he built up a so-called "Hostel of Romanticism" in Halle-Giebichenstein. The Romantic Garden Kingdom with its numerous concerts was a meeting place for numerous artists, scholars and thinkers. The biography was published as part of the project Honorary Graves of the City of Halle (Saale). In 2020, his grave in the former cemetery of St Bartholomew's Church was declared a grave of honour.
