Overview This R script compiles hand-coded data and automatically calculated information on the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Federal Courts of Germany (PVP-FCG) into a human- and machine-readable data set, including a professionally designed Codebook. All data sets created with this software will be published permanently free and open access on Zenodo, the scientific archive of CERN. Each version is identified with a unique and persistent Version Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Additionally a Concept DOI always redirect to the newest version: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4568681 The Federal Courts are the highest courts of the Federal Republic of Germany. Each Federal Court is headed by a President and a Vice-President. The Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Federal Courts of Germany (PVP-FCG) data set is an attempt to exhaustively document the leadership of German apex courts to facilitate computational analysis of their composition, possible effects on the jurisprudence of their respective courts and their handling of internal administrative matters. As of this version we have processed all Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the German Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht), German Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof ) and German Federal Administrative Court (Bundesverwaltungsgericht). Please note that this is a work-in-progress and more courts will be added in the future. Compilation To compile the full data set you should copy all source files into an empty folder and enter the code below into an R console. You must have rmarkdown, its dependencies and LaTeX, including all LaTeX packages mentioned in the preamble .tex file installed. You can also execute the script as a regular R script, but this will not produce the Codebook or save the diagrams to disk. Please note that this source code does not produce a separate Compilation Report, as the computations are fairly simple and easily reviewed in ordinary code editors. rmarkdown::render(input = "PVP-FCG_Source_DataSetCodebookCreation.R", envir = new.env(), output_file = "PVP-FCG_2021-04-08_Codebook.pdf") MIT No Attribution (MIT-0) License This software and its documentation is distributed under a MIT No Attribution (MIT-0) License.
