GIS4Schools data

Abstract

Dataset for the practice lectures of the GIS4Schools project, co-funded by the Erasmus plus Programme of the European Union. Project number: 2020-1-IT02-KA201-079490. The dataset refers to the geographic area between North-West Italy (Lombardy and Piedmont) and South Switzerland (Ticino Canton), including Maggiore, Como and Lugano lakes. Geographic data projection is the WGS84 UTM32 North (EPSG:32632). The dataset consists of a GeoPackage file (containing both vector and raster layers), one shapefile and two QGIS layer style files (.qml) with the raster layers symbology (vector layers symbology is stored directly in the GeoPackage). GIS4Schools_GeoPackage.gpkg, containing the following layers: Lakes: Vector layer that represents the main lakes in the area of interest Land_Cover: Raster layer that represents the land cover classes defined within Corine Land Cover 2018 Municipalities_OSM: Vector layer that defines the municipalities' boundaries within the area of interest Population: Table containing the number of inhabitants of the municipalities around the lakes River_network: Vector layer that represents the main river network within the area of interest Temperature_distribution: Raster layer that represents the temperature distribution of the lakes Temperature: Vector layer representing the temperature distribution of the lakes Population_municipalities_on_lakes.shp: Vector file that represents municipalities on lakes and their population Land_Cover_style.qml: Symbology of the raster Land_Cover Temperature_distribution_style.qml: Symbology of the raster Temperature_distribution Data are derived from different sources. Sources and licenses are summarized in the following. Lakes: Vector layer derived from: Lombardy Geoportal (Open Data Regione Lombardia – Lago 10000 CT10; license: CC BY - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode) Piedmont Geoportal (Geoportale Regione Piemonte – Idrografia 1:100.000 – Laghi – Storico; license: CC BY - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/deed.it) opendata.swiss (Carta base generalizzata per la rappresentazione di dati idrologici; license: open use, must provide the source - https://opendata.swiss/it/terms-of-use#terms_by) Land_Cover: Raster layer derived from Copernicus Land Monitoring Service - European Environment Agency (Corine Land Cover 2018; license: full, open and free access as established by the Copernicus data and information policy Regulation (EU) No 1159/2013 of 12 July 2013 - http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A32013R1159) Municipalities_OSM: Vector layer derived from OpenStreetMap (license: Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) - https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/) River_network: Vector layer derived from: Lombardy Geoportal (Geoportale Regione Lombardia – Reticolo Idrografico Regionale Unificato; license: IODL 2.0) Piedmont Geoportal (Geoportale Regione Piemonte – ARPA Piemonte: Reticolo idrografico Direttiva Quadro Acque WFD 60/2000/CE - license: CC BY - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/it/legalcode) opendata.swiss (Carta base generalizzata per la rappresentazione di dati idrologici; license: open use, must provide the source - https://opendata.swiss/it/terms-of-use#terms_by) Temperature_distribution: Raster layer derived from the processing of Landsat-8 satellite imagery Population_municipalities_on_lakes: Vector file derived by combining Lakes layer, Municipalities layer, and Population table
