ANALISIS SIFAT MEKANIS PENGARUH PROSES PENGELASAN BAJA TAHAN KARAT

Abstract

Salah satu tujuan terpenting dalam pengembangan material adalah menentukan apakah struktur dan sifat-sifat material optimum agar dapat tercapai daya tahan maksimum. Salah satu material yang banyak digunakan baja tahan karat. Baja tahan karat digolongkan ke dalam baja karbon. Baja karbon adalah paduan besi karbon dan di golongkan menjadi tiga macam,yaitu baja karbon rendah (C<0,20 %), baja karbon menengah (0,20 – 0,50%), dan baja karbon tinggi (C>0,5%). Kadar karbon yang rendah menyebabkan kekuatan tinggi, perpanjangan yang tinggi dan harga bentur serta mampu las yang baik. Baja tahan karat mempunyai sifat getas apabila diadakan perlakuan panas dan didinginkan dalam waktu singkat atau kejut. Titik cairnya kira-kira 1.500°C. Baja tahan karat adalah baja yang ditambah unsur-unsur paduan. Salah satu atau beberapa dari unsur-unsur paduan seperti mangan, molly, nikel dibubuhkan untuk memberikan sifat-sifat khusus dari baja tersebut. Dari hasil pengujian komposisi didapat 9,04 % Nikel, 70,23 % Ferrous, 1,97 % Mangan, 18,74 % Crom, stainless steel yang diuji termasuk ke dalam tipe SUS 304 (menurut standar JIS) dengan kekuatan tarik 609,06 N/mm² . Dari hasil pengujian kekerasan, angka kekerasan Vickers yang paling tinggi adalah 181 HV, karena mendapat perlakuan proses pengelasan (di daerah logam las). Angka kekerasan Vickers yang sedang adalah 167 HV (di daerah logam las). Angka kekerasan Vickers yang paling rendah adalah 138 HV, karena tidak mendapat perlakuan proses pengelasan (di daerah logam induk).
