Abstract

Baja karbon biasanya digunakan untuk Pahat Bubut HSS, masalah yang dihadapi biasanya pahat membentur chuck dan material atau kesalahan setingan akibatnya pahat tersebut akan mengalami kerusakan sehingga tidak dapat digunakan lagi. Oleh karena itu peneliti mencari bahan alternatif dengan proses dan material yang lebih murah namun dapat menghasilkan kualitas yang setara dengan pahat bubut HSS. Heat treatment dilakukan dengan variasi media pendingin dan suhu terhadap nilai kekerasan Baja JIS SUP 9 dilakukan proses hardening pada suhu 750 °C, 800 °C, 850 °C dengan waktu tahan 20 detik. Proses selanjutnya, quenching dengan variasi media pendingin udara, solar dan oli SAE 40. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh media pendingin dan suhu dengan variasi media pendingin udara, solar, oli SAE 40 pada suhu 750 °C, 800 °C, 850 °C terhadap nilai kekerasan baja JIS SUP 9 pada proses pemanas induksi sebagai bahan alternatif pahat bubut HSS. Hasil uji kekerasan tertinggi 60,7 HRC pada suhu pemanasan 800 °C menggunkan media pendingin solar, tingkat kekerasan hampir mendekati jika dibandingkan dengan pahat bubut HSS M2 sebesar 65,6 HRC. Pengaruh media pendingin dan suhu terbukti mampu menamabah kekerasan baja JIS SUP 9 didapat nilai F hitung lebih besar dari nilai F tabel (23,4 > 2,63).
