Adherencia al tratamiento de la hipertensión arterial en adultos mayores

Abstract

La hipertensión arterial (HTA), a nivel mundial se califica como un serio problema de salud, pues conlleva a diversas complicaciones hacia la persona que la padece, esto se traduce en la presentación de otras condiciones crónicas que repercuten en otros sistemas del organismo. Dicho esto, se hace imperante acudir a un profesional de la salud quien tiene el deber de asignar el tratamiento adecuado luego de hacer la evaluación pertinente, puesto que una de aspectos claves de esta condición es su carácter asintomático. En el caso del Ecuador, esta patología para el 2012 estaba presente en 1.373 personas por cada 100.000, de hecho, en todo Azuay significó el 7,35% de los decesos. Bajo estas consideraciones, es esencial que el hipertenso cumpla a cabalidad con su tratamiento asignado, y es aquí donde entra la adherencia al tratamiento, que, si bien se trata de la capacidad que tiene un individuo de seguir un régimen de medicación, hay factores que traen consecuencias en el acatamiento de la terapéutica prescrita y el objetivo principal de este trabajo es identificarlos. Al final, estos son inconvenientes que no solo afectan al médico y al paciente, sino que también tienen repercusiones en el sistema de salud del país ya que generan más gastos en el sistema tanto público como privado, entonces se hace fundamental establecer estrategias y métodos enfocados en el asesoramiento, así como la educación de la persona con HTA, en especial los adultos mayores.
