Abstract

Os resíduos sólidos tem sido um problema ambiental amplamente discutido nas últimas décadas devido ao aumento na produção global de lixo e da necessidade de ferramentas que auxiliem na sua diminuição. As bitucas de cigarro estão entre os resíduos mais abundantes em mutirões de limpeza de praias, sendo causadores de impactos ao meio ambiente, como incêndios, contaminação de águas e morte de animais. Dentre as possíveis ferramentas para gestão de resíduos sólidos, a educação ambiental é muito utilizada tanto para diminuição quanto para sua gestão e destinação correta. No caso das bitucas, projetos que envolvam conscientização ambiental e instalação de bituqueiras tem se mostrado eficiente. Sendo assim, analisamos a quantidade de bitucas de cigarro descartadas em seis pontos na orla da Praia de Itanhaém/SP, três pontos controle (sem estação de bituqueiras) e três pontos de tratamento (com instalação de bituqueiras) ao longo de três semanas. Não foi observada diferença significativa no número de bitucas encontradas nos pontos controle e tratamento ou na proporção de bitucas descartadas no chão e nas bituqueiras, entretanto a quantidade encontrada nas bituqueiras foi constante. Concluímos que somente a presença de um local para o descarte correto das bitucas não é o suficiente, sendo necessárias outras ferramentas de educação ambiental em conjunto como abordagens, avisos e placas.
