Heliothrips longisensibilis Xie, Mound & Zhang 2019

Abstract

Heliothrips longisensibilis Xie, Mound & Zhang (Figs 21, 22, 42, 75, 108, 116, 126) Despite being first recognized in southern China, this species is most probably native to South America and is found particularly in the more northern areas of Brazil, although it has been recorded in Goiás State on Hancornia speciosa (Silva et al. 2019a). Specimens deposited in ESALQ and referred to as a pest of rubber trees in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (Monteiro et al. 1999) cannot at present be satisfactorily identified. These specimens may represent a further new species, because they exhibit character states of both H. longisensibilis and H. haemorroidalis. RECORDS. Brazil. Mato Grosso: Cuiabá, 11.iii.2016, 2 females, Nova Mutum, 15.iv.2019, 3 females, 2 males; Maranhão: São Luís, 5.i.2017, 3 females; Piauí: Teresina, 10.ii.2016, 3 females, Floriano, 28.iv.2018, 3 females; Goiás: Goiânia, 22.viii.2016, 3 females 3 males; Rio Grande do Norte: Mossoró, 3.vi.2019, 4 females; Ceará: Caucaia, 3 females, 10.ix.2019; Paraíba: Areia, 2 females, 4.xi.2019 (E.F.B. Lima) (CHNUFPI).
