The Importance Of Being Open: Insights From The New Open-Access Journal Fungal Biology And Biotechnology

Abstract

Die digitale Revolution, welche v.a. von sozialen Medien (Twitter, Facebook usw.) beschleunigt wird, beeinflusst längst auch die Welt der Wissenschaft. Wissenschaftler/innen pflegen ihre Kontakte und tauschen Daten und Ergebnisse in einer veränderten und wesentlich dynamischeren Art und Weise aus als noch vor wenigen Jahren. Die Veröffentlichung von wissenschaftlichen Artikeln im Open Access (OA)-Format, d.h. ohne zusätzlichen Kosten oder Gebühren für die Leser/innen, ist sowohl Ergebnis als auch Motor dieses Wandels. Heute ist dieses Modell Teil des Portfolios von praktisch allen Wissenschaftsverlagen. Wir stellen hier das neue OA-Journal Fungal Biology and Biotechnology vor (gegr. Oktober 2014 von BioMed Central) und ziehen eine vorläufige Bilanz aus seinen ersten zwei Jahren. Auf Grund unserer Erfahrung und Expertise sind wir davon überzeugt, dass das OA-Modell zukünftig eine zunehmende Bedeutung in der Verbreitung von wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen haben wird.
