Abstract

Kecibeling atau Strobilanthes crispa (SC) telah lama digunakan masyakat lokal sebagai obat tradisional. Kajian ini bertujuan menjelaskan hubungan pemanfaatan SC sebagai obat tradisional dengan bioaktivitasnya sehingga efek sampingnya dapat diminimalisasi. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literature yang terbit secara online di google scholar dengan menggunakan kata kunci Strobilanthes crispa dan bioactivities of Strobilanthes crispa. Literature yang diperoleh disintesakan sehingga dapat menjelaskan pemanfaatan dan bioaktivitas SC. Tanaman SC memiliki bunga yang indah sehingga mudah ditemukan di pekarangan rumah yang dijadikan sebagai tanaman hias atau pagar hidup. Hasil penelitian etnobotani ditemukan bahwa SC sebagai obat untuk luka, peluruh batu, mengatasi ganguan urine, mengatasi usus buntu dan mengatasi penyakit diabetes mellitus. SC memiliki bioaktivitas sebagai anti kanker, antidiabetes mellitus, anti kolesterol, anti batu ginjal dan anti mikroba. Bioaktivitas SC sebagai anti kanker lebih menonjol dan bersifat sitotoksik terhadap kanker payudara, kanker nasofaring, kanker hati dan kanker korektal, oleh karena itu dapat dikembangkan sebagai obat alternative dalam mengatasi penyakit kanker.
