The growth of the aviation sector worldwide poses new challenges for noise management and calls for new approaches to reduce noise impacts. Aircraft noise exposure can have adverse health effects and a significant negative impact on people’s quality of life (e.g. Schreckenberg et al., 2010). This relationship is often mediated by aircraft noise annoyance, which has been linked to the experience of stress (van Kamp, 1990). To address these negative impacts of aircraft noise, a vast number of aircraft noise managing and mitigating interventions are implemented by airports, surrounding communities and other stakeholders. However, little is known about the value of such interventions for the residents as well as their impact on residents’ quality of life. Therefore, the current study aims to examine whether interventions implemented by airports or other stakeholders in airport regions could have an impact on residents’ quality of life, and, if so, identify which specific aspects of these interventions play a role. The results provide starting points and guidance for stakeholders while shedding light on relevant aspects for future research.
