This set of two files contains the data extracted from Carl Crow's Newspaper Directory of China (1931 edition). The first file contains the raw extraction from Freizo (Crow_1931_raw). The second is a clean version of the same dataset after correcting, cleaning, and standardizing the data initially extracted (Crow_zenodo_1931). Each line corresponds to a unique title. For each title, we provide the following information: name (full name, English, Wade-Giles, Chinese, pinyin transliteration), place of publication (city, province), year of establishment, circulation, publisher's name and profile, number and size of pages, number and size of columns. In the cleaned version, the first tab contains the data (list of the periodicals). Additional tabs describe the variables and the classification used for analytical purposes (period, format, etc).
