Abstract

Through the relationships people establish with their environment, the city reveals itself by the traces of occupation, uses and "marks" left in several places throughout the street. By observing the city since long and the actions of those people who visually appropriate of the streets, I collect images through photographies captured by a mobile. As a city spectator, walking through it is part of my day-to-day routine and as a passer-by I’m interested in photographing every kind of visual record. I suppose that such visual records made in the city, bring with them elements that can contribute on my activity as a teacher, as an artist and as a researcher. Mainly as an Art Professor, and designer, I notice the drawings made within an urban context, alongside with the city's insurgencies, as an expression of total autonomy, destined to visibility. As I walk through the city, some questioning can be made: how to problematize the experience of my sight facing the images that permeate me on a daily basis? How are incorporated the technics and the very aspects of imaging, spread through the visual, communicational and symbolical features on the contemporary context of the cities? The aim of this research is to explore the “images” collected from the metaphorical landscapes from the city of Belo Horizonte, discussing the narratives present in the public urban space. Thus, from the investigation field point of view, this research is qualitative or naturalistic, as some authors prefer, and data collection was done through the images photographed in the empirical field. The interactive mode of visual material production was made through an iconographic investigation, through the streets of the city of Belo Horizonte/MG, aiming to capture the subjective dimension of the urban phenomenon observed, that is, the act of appropriating the city as support for producing diverse visual records. The theoretical framework that contributed for defining the concept of Image and substantiate the analysis of the collected images was constituted by the authors, Joly (1986) and Mondzain (2015); on Territoriality, Sá (2013); on Temporality, Sousa Júnior (2019) and Brissac Peixoto (2004); and on Identity, Rancière (2017) and Hall (2006) and others.
