MEDIATION IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

The present paper approaches the concept of mediation in the context of teaching English as a foreign language. Drawing on the analysis of this language activity treated by notorious authors, such as Maria Stathopoulou, Brian North, and Enrica Piccardo, it focuses on a broader view of mediation presented in CEFR 2001 and subsequently developed in CEFR Companion Volume with New Descriptors 2018. The article pursues to determine the improvements brought to this concept, the new illustrative descriptor scales alongside the mediation strategies with a view to devising specific mediation tasks correlated with the three macro-groups of mediation activities: mediating texts, mediating concepts, and mediating communication aimed at developing learnersrsquo; mediation skills.
