Análisis longitudinal de redes para Conectividad Funcional Cerebral

Abstract

La Conectividad Funcional Cerebral (CFC) un rasgo neurológico asociado a numerosos padecimientos de origen oscuro. Descubrir los patrones temporales de cambio de la CFC es relevante para la prevención y el diagnóstico de anormalidades cognitivas y neurológicas. Para describir estos patrones de cambio en el tiempo, en este trabajo se utilizan las señales obtenidas por Electroencefalografía (EEG), una técnica no invasiva de registro de la actividad eléctrica de la corteza cerebral. El modelo planteado para analizar la EEG se basa en la premisa de que esta bio-señal es multivariable y no es estacionaria. Para representar el primer aspecto se ha planteado el uso del Análisis de Redes (AR), mediante un grafo cuyos nodos corresponden a los diferentes canales de la señal EEG, cuantificando su grado de asociación estadística mediante la coherencia electroencefalográfica. De esta forma, la CFC se caracteriza a través de dos parámetros del grafo: El coeficiente de agrupamiento ponderado, y el promedio ponderado de la longitud de ruta. El aspecto dinámico de estos parámetros se contempla ajustando modelos de regresión lineal a ambos parámetros. La combinación resultante es llamada Análisis de Redes Longitudinales. Para mostrar la aplicación de estas ideas, se muestran los resultados del ajuste del AR Longitudinales con datos EEG de 5 personas, 4 de ellas con Epilepsia y una sana, durante 14 segundos. Dichos análisis permiten destacar que el valor de es superior en la persona sana a lo largo del tiempo, mientras que el valor de es mayor en las personas con Epilepsia. Esto es consistente con lo reportado en trabajos previos, sobre la condición de “mundo pequeño” en las redes EEG de personas sanas. La validación del ajuste longitudinal lineal se realiza mediante gráficos de histograma y de cuartil de los residuales observados, los cuales no muestran evidencia contundente en contra de la hipótesis de distribución normal de los residuales.
