The article is devoted to new technologies and the digitization of archival materials in Serbia. The task of archives is to protect and preserve archival materials for future generations. Storing documents on paper is no longer the main way to protect archival material. Digitization is more beneficial because it provides a relatively cheap and safe way to protect cultural heritage. Government agencies should also be involved in the digitalization process through organizational and material support. This process must be accompanied by relevant law and other regulations
