COVID-19 pandemic is influencing all parts of human society in the world. We all are concern first with how the pandemic will strafe our families, friends and people living around us. But we also have a duty to figure out how it will impact on world’s biodiversity. We all know that corona virus is a zoonotic disease but now it seems to be jumping back. On 6th April 2020 news emerged that a tiger named Nadia at Bronx Zoo, New York tested positive for the corona virus along with 6 other big cats, were infected by asymptomatic zoo-keeper. Tigers have been showing symptoms, including late March 2020. It was first time that a person infected the animal and got ailing. But US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revolved that there is no evidence that animals and pets can spread COVID-19 to people or they are the carriers. But it is clear that animal can get infected by humans. Nevertheless, there are many positive scenarios came in front of us. Reduce human activities on account of lock down in India, has helped animals move freely in Western Ghats. COVID-19 lockdown has come as a blessing in disguise for flora & fauna in the Western Ghats. Forest officials have noticed large number of deer’s, elephants, bison’s and other animals walking on roads at Subramanya and surrounding areas because no one goes for hunting and other activities in the forest. Due to lockdown situation the environment become less polluted. As a result, many singing birds have come to common locality of India. An examination on diabetic patients revealed that while listening to birds chirping the amount of Insulin increases and glucose decreases in their blood. Birds tune also increases Beta-Endorphin hormone in our body, which helps us to reduce pain. Now days we are going through home arrest situation, it causes despondency in our life. Tune of few birds increase Dopamine chemical in our body it can decrease our despondency. At last, we can say it is too early to evaluate the overall impacts of the corona virus on biodiversity but some preliminary conclusions are possible. At this point protected areas appear to be safe and, in many places, biodiversity is benefiting from reduced human activities. However, this may not be true everywhere, only time will tell if this will have long term consequences.
