The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown have compounded the challenges for the workers in the informal sector workers. This article provides evidence from official data sources such as the Periodic Labour Force Survey on the estimates job losses of informal workers in urban areas. It estimates the number of most vulnerable informal sector workers in urban areas in three ways (i) the most affected sectors; (ii) status of work and (iii) vulnerable occupations, where they are engaged in urban areas. The paper estimates that over 40 million informal workers may have lost their job in the current crisis .
