Este trabajo describe cómo llevar a la práctica un huerto escolar ecológico en un colegio Montessori, en el segundo ciclo de Educación Infantil. Primero se argumentará la importancia del contacto con la naturaleza en la infancia, y se presentará el huerto escolar como un valioso recurso educativo, que proporciona un contexto de aprendizaje fuera de las paredes del aula. Como se explicará, el huerto posibilita experiencias que contribuyen al desarrollo de los niños y niñas y al conocimiento del medio natural, favoreciendo la toma de conciencia sobre la importancia de su conservación. Asimismo, constituye un medio para educar en hábitos de alimentación saludables. A continuación se revisará la pedagogía Montessori y sus principios fundamentales, donde se destaca el aprendizaje mediante las propias experiencias en un ambiente preparado para satisfacer las necesidades del alumnado, promoviendo su independencia y estimulando su deseo de conocer. Finalmente, en este proyecto se desarrollará el diseño de un huerto, su puesta en marcha y su mantenimiento, teniendo en cuenta la participación de toda la comunidad educativa. El objetivo es conseguir que el espacio exterior del colegio forme parte del ambiente educativo, donde los niños y las niñas puedan trabajar de forma independiente y en contacto con la naturaleza. Abstract: This work describes how to develop an organic vegetable garden in a Montessori school in early years education. First, the importance of contact with nature in the childhood is argued and the vegetable garden is presented as a valuable education resource that provides a learning environment outside the classroom. It is explained how the garden provides experiences that contribute to children development and to the knowledge of nature, increasing the awareness of the importance of its conservation. Moreover, it is also a means of conveying healthy food habits. Next, the Montessori pedagogy and its fundamental principles are reviewed, highlighting learning by experience in an environment prepared to meet the students needs, promoting their independence and favoring their drive to learn. Finally, this project lays out the design of a vegetable garden and its maintenance at the school, taking into account the role of the whole learning community. The goal is to incorporate the school outdoors to learning environment, where children can work independently and close to nature.
