«Andenken an die liebe Mutter» - Über die Trauerkultur und die Kunst des Haarflechtens im 19. Jahrhundert

Abstract

«Andenken an die liebe Mutter» liest man auf dem Trauerandenken, welches der 1899 verstorbenen Marie Winiker aus Triengen gewidmet ist und zum Inventar des Historischen Museums Luzern gehört. Welche Geschichte kann es uns erzählen? Das Miniatur Grabdenkmal wird von einer Trauerweide beschattet, die aus Echthaar geflochten ist. Haar von Verstorbenen wurden im 19. Jahrhundert oftmals aufbewahrt und liebevoll zu Trauerschmuck verarbeitet oder in Trauerandenken integriert. Sogenannte Haarbildnerinnen und Haarbildner haben dazumal Haare gewoben, geflochten oder geklöppelt, ebenso wurden in Klöstern solche Andenken angefertigt. Das Trauerandenken zeugt von einer Geisteshaltung im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert, die von Gefühlsbetonung und viktorianischer Todesromantik geprägt ist. Damit wirft dieses Objekt, das die Funktion des Erinnerns an die geliebte Verstorbene einnahm und somit das Trauern begleitete, die Fragen auf, wie zu dieser Zeit getrauert wurde. Welche Bedeutung kam den Haaren von Verstorbenen zu? Wagen wir eine Spurensuche, die uns unter anderem ins Appenzell führt, wo die Haarflechterei heute wieder ausgeübt wird.
