Data resources are essential for the long-term preservation of scientific data and reproducibility of science. The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics has the mission to provide the life science community with a stable and sustainable data infrastructure. The Institute manages a portfolio of databases and software tools, which vary from manually curated knowledgebases to online tools. SIB aims to ensure that these SIB Resources are available long-term, i.e. as long as their scientific return-on-investment and impact are high. This paper describes the processes that support the identification, evaluation, and development of SIB Resources.
