Fidicinoides determinata

Fidicinoides determinata

Abstract

Fidicinoides determinata (Walker, 1858a) new record Fidicina determinata Walker 1858a: 14. (Venezuela) REMARKS. This is one of four species of Fidicinoides in Peru to have hyaline distal fore wings. The larger size (wing span about 100 mm), rounded extension of the posterolateral male operculum, the angled primary spine of the fore femur, and the lobate lateral extension of the lateral lobe of the uncus distinguish the species from F. pronoe. It can be distinguished from F. opalina by the piceous body, infuscation at the base of the wings, and smoky distal fore wings in that species. It can be distinguished from the Fidicinoides ptychodiropeda n. sp. by the lack of a transverse piceous fascia on the head. DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported previously from Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and Venezuela (Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013). The disjunct distribution records are most likely the result of incomplete sampling as specimens from the extremes of the distribution (i.e. Mexico and Argentina) are morphologically the same. MATERIAL EXAMINED FOR NEW RECORD. “ PERU: Pucallpa, / Loreto / 27 July 1962 / W. T. Van Velzen ” two males (MSUC), one male (AFSC); “ PERU: / Loreto, Pucallpa / Yarinacocha / 28 July 1962 / W. T. Van Velzen ” one male (AFSC) “ PERU: Pucallpa, / Loreto / 1 August 1962 / W. T. Van Velzen ” one male (MSUC); “ PERU: Pucallpa, / Loreto / 3 August 1962 / W. T. Van Velzen ” one male (MSUC); “ PERU: Pucallpa, / Loreto / 29 July 1962 / W. T. Van Velzen ” two males (MSUC); “ PERU Huanaco / Tingo Maria / 17 Aug. 1985 / J.F.
