Ahomana neotropicalis Distant 1905

Authors: Sanborn, Allen F.;

Ahomana neotropicalis Distant 1905

Abstract

Ahomana neotropicalis Distant, 1905h Ahomana neotropicalis Distant 1905h: 24. (Callao, Peru) REMARKS. Sanborn (2014b) designated a lectotype from the syntypes in the BMNH. Callao, Peru became the type locality for the species under Article 73.2.3 of the Code (ICZN 1999). It is a primarily piceous species marked with ochraceous and covered with grey pile, talc-like wings, and slight infuscation on the radial and radiomedial crossveins of the fore wings. DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported previously from Argentina and Peru (Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2013; 2014b). Based on the history of the specimens in the BMNH along with two locality labels on some of the specimens indicating both a specific locality in Peru and Paraguay in general, the presence of the species in Paraguay (Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2011b) is considered erroneous (Sanborn 2014b). The species has been reported from Callao (Distant 1905h; Jacobi 1951; Sanborn 2014b) and Callanga (Jacobi 1907) in Peru. MATERIAL EXAMINED. “ Callao / Peru / 1901-324 // Callao / Peru // Ahomana / neotropicalis / Dist. / Type (hand written by Distant) // Type (red bordered label) // SYNTYPE (blue bordered label)” one male (BMNH, lectotype); “ 2 ♂ + ♀ Locusto / Callao, Peru / Sea level / 12 Jan. 1900 // Paraguay. / Purch. from / Rosenberg. / 1900-219. // ♂ // SYNTYPE (blue bordered label)” one male (BMNH, paralectotype); “ 2 Cigarro / Callao, Peru / 12 Jan. 1900 / Sea level / Flying in the Morning // Paraguay. / Purch. from / Rosenberg. / 1900-219. // ♂ // SYNTYPE (blue bordered label)” one male (BMNH, paralectotype); “ Callao, Peru / 16 Jan. 1900 // Paraguay. / Purch. from / Rosenberg. / 1900-219. // ♂ // SYNTYPE (blue bordered label)” one male (BMNH, paralectotype); “ Locust / Callao, Peru / Jan. 1900 Dry / 10 ft alt. // Paraguay. / Purch. from / Rosenberg. / 1900-219. // ♂ // SYNTYPE (blue bordered label)” one male (BMNH, paralectotype); “Paraguay. / Purch. from / Rosenberg. / 1900-219. // Ahomana / neotropicalis // B. M. // ♀ // SYNTYPE (blue bordered label)”one female (BMNH, paralectotype); “Matucana PERU / 27 May 1920 // Cornell Univ. Ex- / pedition Lot 559 // Cornell U. / Lot. 732 / Sub. 79 // Ahomana / neotropicalis? / Dist.” (CUIC, one male).
