Abstract

Se presentan los análisis del contexto funerario del sitio El Gaucho, a partir de un enfoque interdisciplinario. Este sitio se ubica cronológicamente en el período Arcaico VI (3500 -1500 cal a.p.) en la costa de Taltal- Paposo (Salazar et al. 2015). La particularidad del hallazgo reside en que fue descubierto y levantado por aficionados, resguardado durante años en el Museo Augusto Capdeville de Taltal antes de ser analizado por especialistas. Gracias a los datos obtenidos, ha sido posible adscribir este contexto al tipo de entierro “Patrón A”, descrito por Castelleti y Maltrain (2010), y explorar el carácter primordialmente costero, orientado a la subsistencia marítima que las poblaciones de Taltal mantuvieron a inicios de lo que se ha conocido como Formativo para el resto del Norte Grande. Como último punto, se insta a los investigadores a retomar la información contenida en los museos provenientes de espacios y contextos que han sido altamente intervenidos por acción antrópica, considerando la rica variedad de información que estos poseen.
