This paper gives an overview of the origins and evolution of textile manufacturing from prehistory to the early history, both in the Mediterranean area and the Iberian Peninsula. We review and describe the textile technology and the context of the archaeological evidence, trying to go beyond a mere empirical study of different elements used in textile manufacturing, thereby focusing on the recovery contexts of peninsular textile indicators that go from the Late Bronze Age to the Iron Age, in the Phoenician colonies or areas under their influence, along with other peninsular areas.
