In this paper, the Boards for Automated Referential Communication Task(BARCoT)experimental program is described. BARCoT emulates the referential communication task used in Hwang et al. 2015, in which participants interact with model talkers to fill in words on a game board. BARCoT was created in order to allow for this task to be conducted in two distant locations (Miami, Florida, and Ithaca, New York), with participants interacting with the same two model talkers in each location. The program also allows for quicker data analysis by automating the labeling and storing of data in a format suitable for use with the Montreal Forced Aligner (McAuliffe et al., 2017). How BARCoT works—including details related to the stimuli, materials, task, and more–are described in this paper, along with information on how this program may be used in the future.
