M. arduinna rhodopensis Freyer, 1836 , TL: ‘europäischen Türkei’, (precise location undetermined but nomenclature suggests the Rhodope Mountains, Greece / Bulgaria); similar in wingspan to evanescens, males 41–45mm, females 44–49mm, ground colour dark as in the nominotypical form with heavy black markings on both fore and hindwings, melanic females common (Figs 13, 14).
