Wir Bobos. Zur Autoethnographie eines Sozialtyps

Abstract

In den letzten Jahren erfuhr ein bis dato blasser Sozialtypus eine ungewöhnliche Konjunktur in den Medien: der „Bobo“. Das Amalgam aus Bourgois und Bohemien wurde wahlweise oder gleichzeitig für die Gentrifizierung von Stadtteilen, die Verachtung des Proletariats, die blinde Zustimmung zur globalen Migrationsfreiheit, die neue soziale Spaltung, die Gleichberechtigung der Frauen, die Emanzipation unterdrückter Minderheiten und die Rettung des Planeten ebenso gehasst wie gefeiert. Mit dem Sozialtyp „Bobo“ sind wir gemeint: Wir, das Autorenkollektiv dieses Textes, wir, die Leserschaft sozialwissenschaftlicher Literatur, wir, die privilegierte, junge Bildungselite, fern zynischer Nihilismen und mit ungetrübtem Eifer zur Weltverbesserung. Oder? – Der vorliegende Text stellt sich der Aufgabe, materielle Kultur, Ideologie, soziale Praktiken und Beziehungsmuster der Bobos zu beschreiben und in einen größeren zeitdiagnostischen Kontext einzuordnen, die neue soziale Spaltung. Zur Methode wurde eine modifizierte Variante der Autoethnografie gewählt, die verwendeten Zitate sind folglich originär boboscher Herkunft. Die Art der Präsentation ist ebenfalls boboesk: essayistisch, ironisch und überspitzt. Der Text fasst die Arbeit eines Seminars zusammen und folgt der delphischen Inschrift: „Γνῶθι σεαυτόν“; erkenne dich selbst! Die Reihe "Soziologische Fragmente" wird vom Soziologiemagazin publiziert.
