Abstract

En un discurso en el Trades Union Congress (TUC) en 2015, Andy Haldane, economista jefe del Banco de Inglaterra, reportó los resultados de la replicación del trabajo de Frey y Osborne [1] por parte del Banco. El discurso indicaba que él, con la debida deferencia hacia su audiencia, era muy consciente de la naturaleza inductora de ansiedad de los hallazgos. Por el contrario, tres años después, el gobernador del Banco, Mark Carney, en un discurso titulado El futuro del trabajo, prefirió poner mayor énfasis en una actualización del trabajo de la OCDE, estimando el desplazamiento de alrededor del 10% [2]. Ni Haldane ni Carney son escépticos con respecto al problema conjunto de cómo se produce el rango de números y ambos cuentan historias similares basadas en la literatura principal de la Cuarta Revolución Industrial. Cada uno usa los números como puntos de referencia para el futuro. Surgirán más comentarios en la misma línea a medida que se realicen nuevos estudios y se pongan a disposición más datos. Incluso mientras lea esto, cualquier búsqueda en línea probablemente arrojará nuevos informes de captación de titulares que pongan en primer plano las cantidades y bondades futuras para el trabajo.
