Rainwater harvesting in mediterranean silvopastoral systems - Sadeveden keruu välimeren metsälaitumilla

Abstract

In dry areas such as those found in the Mediterranean region, the availability of water is a critical issue that requires the promotion of sustainable management practices and tools. These issues are even more relevant in the current climate change contexts. Rain can also be a cause of soil erosion. This is the case, for example, when the land is not properly designed to store water and / or when extreme rainfall occurs over short periods of time. Drainage lines and small ponds have been put in place on several projects to maximize water abstraction. Ponds may be larger or smaller depending on the size of the farm and the topography of the soil. The way they are built depends mainly on climatic conditions and soil conditions. Drainage lines, on the other hand, are ditches that follow contour lines and serve to reduce the speed of water runoff and help it slowly seep into the ground. These solutions are relatively inexpensive and very effective as water management tools. - Kuivilla alueilla, muun muassa Välimeren seudulla, veden saatavuus on kriittinen ongelma, joka vaatii kestävien menetelmien j a työkalujen edistämistä .
