The publication of the work of Valerio Del Nero, Tradizione classica e cultura umanistica nel De Disciplinis di Vives, invites us to reflect, in line with the thought of the great Spanish humanist in this important work, on the desirability of a rhetorical philosophy. The twinning between philology and philosophy highlights the need for a defense of the word, including the poetic word, as a fundamental tool of philosophical work. In this sense, De Disciplinis would be representing one of the maxims of the so-called "rhetorical humanism": the centrality of language in any philosophical discussion.
