ENGLISH: Archaeology of Greek Architecture in the Treatise De Varia Commensuracion by Juan de Arfe. Studies about Juan de Arfe y Villafañe, author of numerous treatises, do not usually mention the history of ancient Greek architecture. However, the Renaissance goldsmith writes extensively about Classical architecture at the beginning of Book IV of his work De Varia Commensuracion para la Sculptura y Architectura (Seville, 1585). This article examines Juan de Arfe's references to Classical Greek architecture, and highlights the role of Juan de Arfe as a historian of architecture, possibly with the intention of following one of Vitruvio's apothegmas.
