Electroencephalography is a widely used tool for both routine examinations and follow-up to critically ill patients admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) settings. Thus, this work studies the quantitative differences of the EEG performed for two groups of Brazilian individuals (n = 25 control and n = 25 coma), considering the frequency range 0 – 100 Hz. The EEG was analyzed by estimating the power spectral density and its time variations. It was found that the amplitude and topographic distribution of delta rhythms - coma group - and alpha - control - consist of the main quantitative differences within the classical neurologic range of 0 – 40 Hz, which agrees with well-establishded knowledge of the field. Accurate description of gamma and supergamma characteristics is provided, pointing out significant changes regarding the time variations of the supergamma power for comatose patients.
