Spinal cord injury is an aggression to the nerve bundles that causes total or partial loss of voluntary motricity and sensitivity, as well as impairment in the urinary, intestinal, circulatory, respiratory, sexual and reproductive systems. Rehabilitation is the way patients find to recover what has been lost. There are several rehabilitation approaches for spinal cord injuries, including conventional physical therapy, use of orthoses and orthostatism. Virtual Reality is a promising technology that has been used in the rehabilitation process, making it interesting and motivating for the patient. This article proposes to explain the importance of rehabilitation and its new possibilities, allied to virtual reality.
