Aims: To evaluate the alteration of blood glucose in alcoholic liver disease(ALD). Methods: The study was conducted on 106 alcoholic liver disease patients admitted at a tertiary care hospital in Imphal and their Fasting blood sugar (FBS) and Post prandial blood glucose (PPBS) were measured by autoanalyser using glucose oxidase method. ADA guidelines were used to define impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus (DM). Results: In our study the prevalence of IGT and DM in alcoholic liver disease were as follows: DM in 25 patients (23.6%) and IGT in 43 patients (40.6%). Conclusions: Prevalence of DM and IGT was found to be 23.6% and 40.6% respectively. Hence screening for impaired glucose tolerance or DM should be done as a routine.
