Abstract

The Analysis of the relationship of Sefl and Other in “The Past” movie directed by: Asghar Farhadi : Cultural Semiotic Approach Abstract This study is a descriptive-analytic study which looks at the Cinema as the sign system from the perspective of Cultural Semiotic and Absorption and exclusion theory of Tartu School. It also revises and redefines these approaches by the review of “The Past” movie directed by: Asghar Farhadi. In this sense, some of the sequences of the movie have been reviewed and the linguistic and non-linguistic behaviors of the characters of the film have been analyzed that raised the “self and other approach”. It is argued that “Shahryar”'s character among the characters of the film is the representative of “the approach of both self and other” of Sojoudi, and indicates the positive cultural exchange. This study has also reviewed a fourth state which Sojoudi mentioned to Lotman Model in his modified model and redefines it in two ways: first, it considers the fourth state “the approach of not self and not the other” as privative, and second, it moderates this model, considering the principle of economics by adding a continuum in relative terms and redefines on the continuum as the positive to negative cultural exchange and mobility.
