THE EFFECT OF VAMAN KARMA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HYPOTHYROIDISM - A CASE STUDY.

Abstract

Background:The study was conducted to evaluatecost effective and convenient treatment for Hypothyroidismin Ayurved. Introduction:Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in which thyroid gland doesn\'t produce enough of certain crucial hormones. Hypothyroidism may not cause noticeable symptoms in the early stages. Over time, untreated hypothyroidism can cause a number of health problems, such as obesity, joint pain, infertility and heart disease, Goitre,Depression may occur early in hypothyroidism and may become more severe over time. The signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism vary, depending on the severity of the hormone deficiency. The oral medication restores adequate hormone levels, reversing the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism can also cause slowed mental functioning. Myxedema, this rare, life-threatening condition is the result of long-term, undiagnosed hypothyroidism. There is no direct reference of Thyroid in Ayurved Classics. While analysing the signs and symptoms of Hypothyroidism in Ayurvedic view, we note the involvement of all Strotas. The KaphaDosha and VataDoshaVruddhi is elicited and PittaDoshaKshaya is seen. The study was carried out to see the effect of Vaman Karma in the management of Hypothyroidism. Aims: To Study the effect of Vaman Karma in Hypothyroidism. Methodology:A case study of 45 years old female patient with SharirbharVriddhi, Katishula, Aruchi, Sarvanga Shula, Daurbalyata since 4-5 years, was treated with Vaman Karma. Result: A case recorded and treated in our institute. Significant correction in Thyroid Function Test was seen in patient. Conclusion: Encouragingresults were obtained which are presented in full paper.
