This paper is about Barcelona as a city marked by politics, art and philosophy. The debates between Jews and Christians on the superiority of one religion over the other, the construction of the Eixample, the anarchist attacks of the late twentieth and early nineteenth century and the construction of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) ) are some of the milestones of Barcelona's history we analyze in this article from a critical point of view, since they determine not only the past of this city but also its present (Barcelona is recognized by UNESCO as a City of Literature) and its future (as the capital of an independent Catalonia?).
