Abstract

O Sistema Penitenciário Brasileiro é marcado por lacunas ao que tange às políticas públicas na área penal, especialmente se tratando da saúde materno-infantil. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o perfil antropométrico de crianças na fase de amamentação para comparação do que se preconiza o Ministério da Saúde (MS). Trata-se de um estudo exploratório-descritivo com abordagem quantitativa, realizado em novembro de 2011 em uma penitenciária feminina do Distrito Federal. Foram obtidos dados de 20 mães e crianças em registros da penitenciária. Os resultados mostram uma política eficaz para com o aleitamento materno e crescimento das crianças. Entretanto, falhas demonstram que ainda é um assunto que necessita de melhorias e aprimoramento.
