Penggunaan citra dengan resolusi menengah guna memndeteksi kepadatan lahan terbangun pada saat ini belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal, karena sulitnya menbedakan lahan terbangun dan lahan terbuka/kosong.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk nmengkaji kemampuan tranformasi spectral dan kombinasinya guna mendeteksi kepadatan lahan terbangun dan menkaji pola kepadatan lahan terbangun. Untuk dapat mendeteksi kepadatan lahan terbangun dalam penelitian ini menggunakan transformasi spektral yang diperuntukan untuk transformasi kota dan transformasi vegetasi dengan memanfaatkan citra Landsat 8 sebagai sumber data utama. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental dengan cara mengembangkan tranformasi spektaran yang diperuntukan untuk mendeteksi kota dan vegetasi. Kombinasi antar trasformasi ini untuk memunculkan built-up lahan terbangun. Hasil transformasi UI memiliki akurasi tertinggi yaitu 83,33% serta memiliki standar deviasi 30,27. Kombinasi tranformasi terbaik adalah tranformasi UI-NDVI dengan nilai akurasi 85,04% serta nilai standar deviasi 30,32. Peta hasil kepadatan lahan terbangun hasil tranformasi UI-NDVI selanjutnya dianalisis dengan peta jaringan jalan dan kedekatan dengan Central Business District (CBD) untuk mendapatkan pola kepadatan lahan terbangun. Dari hasil analisis diketahui bahwa pola lahan terbangun yang ada di Kota Magelang dan sekitarnya cenderung memiliki dimensi searah jalur jalan utama dan terlihat seperti berbentuk elips
