Materials perception plays an important role in the subjective impressions (meanings and emotions) that a product can elicit. New research activity to systematically explore the relationship between the attributes of materials and subjective experiences of their multisensory perception is been carried out in the last decade. This paper contributes in this aim providing a two phase study about the impact that the context, through three different decoration styles, has on the subjective impressions evokedby a particular ceramic floor, showed through computer renderings. In the first phase, semantic differential technique was used on a 70participant on-line survey, whereas a combination of semantic differential and eye-tracking techniques was used in the secondphase with 30 participants. Results of the first phase showed that the used decoration styles can influence certain subjective impressions related to the material. This was confirmed by thesecond experimental study where besides, eye-tracking techniques have also showed some differences in gaze behavior depending on the context, and between women and men.
