This study investigates the relationship between the syntactic and the literary structure in the biblical book of Lamentations, taking the syntactic structure as its point of departure. It demonstrates that the literary structure at times influences the syntactic one, so that sentences behave differently than they would in prose. This means, that an adequate syntactic analysis of biblical poetry will have to take some literary phenomena into account.
