Abstract

Este trabajo se integra en un grupo de aportaciones que sintetizan los principales resultados de la investigación en el marco del proyecto «Intervenciones biotecnológicas en humanos: obtención y uso de células troncales. Aspectos científicos, jurídicos, filosóficos y sociales» (SEJ-01558), financiado por la Consejería de Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa - Junta de Andalucía, dentro de la convocatoria de Proyectos de Excelencia 2007-2010. El volumen resultante (Moreno Muñoz, M. (Coord.): Perspectivas en la investigación con células troncales. Aspectos científicos, éticos, sociales y legales. Editorial Comares, nov. 2010) incluye aportaciones de especialistas invitados en el curso "Perspectivas en la investigación con células troncales: Aspectos científicos, éticos y legales", organizado por el Centro Mediterráneo-Universidad de Granada y celebrado en Granada, en octubre de 2009.

Las terapias avanzadas constituyen un dominio donde convergen tecnologías muy diversas. La presentación distorsionada de resultados de investigaciones a menudo muy preliminares contribuye a suscitar expectativas que fácilmente pueden ser instrumentalizadas para publicitar tratamientos costosos, de alto riesgo o fraudulentos. El desafío para la comunicación social de la ciencia consiste en incorporar resultados de la investigación sobre nuevos modelos de comprensión pública de la ciencia, útiles para suscitar predisposiciones favorables hacia este dominio complejo de tecnologías, sin renunciar a los elementos de control que posibilitan una comprensión crítica de la ciencia.
