DIVERSIFICAÇÃO DE FORNECEDORES E DESEMPENHO FINANCEIRO: UM ESTUDO EMPÍRICO COM INDÚSTRIAS BRASILEIRAS

Abstract

Decisões sobre como gerir as fontes de suprimentos em empresas industriais exercem papel preponderante para o nível de desempenho financeiro das firmas, uma vez que boa parte dos recursos está aplicada na aquisição de insumos e serviços. Uma importante escolha é optar pela utilização de várias fontes de suprimento ou trabalhar com um ou poucos fornecedores. A literatura não é conclusiva sobre qual caminho deve ser seguido. O propósito deste artigo é verificar a existência de associações entre a estratégia da diversificação de fornecedores (HFORN) e o desempenho financeiro de indústrias brasileiras. O estudo consiste em um cross section múltiplo de 1999 até 2001. Foram analisados dados referentes a 168 companhias de capital aberto, com as ações negociadas na Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo, pertencentes a 14 segmentos industriais. As variáveis dependentes foram o custo da mercadoria vendida (CMV) e também o Earning Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA). Os resultados não revelaram associações significativas entre estratégia de diversificação de fornecedores e o desempenho financeiro alcançado pelas empresas. Além disso, não foi verificado um padrão de relacionamento entre as variáveis ao longo do período examinado.
