EXAMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND CAREER SATISFACTION OF TEACHERS IN BALENO CENTRAL SCHOOL

Abstract

Abstract Teacher development supports instructional competence, but its occupational value also depends on access, institutional support, career relevance, and recognition. This quantitative descriptive-comparative and correlational study examined professional development opportunities and career satisfaction among all 36 teaching personnel of Baleno Central School during School Year 2026-2027. A validated and pilot-tested questionnaire measured five dimensions of professional development and five dimensions of career satisfaction. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, group-comparison tests, and Pearson correlation were used. Professional development opportunities were high overall (M = 3.53). Collaborative learning ranked highest (M = 3.86), followed by relevance and quality (M = 3.72), while institutional support ranked lowest (M = 3.22). Career satisfaction was also high (M = 3.49). Professional fulfillment was strongest (M = 4.13), whereas advancement opportunities were weakest (M = 3.06). Age, sex, civil status, and years of service produced no significant differences. Educational attainment significantly differentiated both variables; teaching position differentiated professional development only; and activity attendance differentiated both. Professional development had a strong positive relationship with career satisfaction, r = .61, p < .001. Institutional support and recognition showed especially important dimension-level relationships. The findings supported the Baleno Teacher Growth and Career Satisfaction Enhancement Plan, which integrates equitable access, institutional assistance, career guidance, recognition, collaborative application, workload support, and continuing evaluation. Results show that professional learning contributes most clearly to a favorable career experience when teachers receive practical support and can connect learning with present work and future development. Keywords professional development, career satisfaction, teachers, institutional support, correlational study
