We have built a prototype for complex event forecasting and applied it to the maritime domain. The problem may be stated as follows: given a stream of input events and a pattern defining relations between such events, in the form of a regular expression, the goal is to estimate at each new event arrival the number of future events that we will need to wait for until the expression is satisfied, and therefore a match be detected.
