English Language Teaching (ELT) today operates within a landscape reshaped by globalization, migration, digital innovation, and shifting educational expectations. This article examines the major challenges confronting contemporary ELT, including increasing classroom linguistic diversity, the tension between global standards and local needs, unequal access to technology, gaps in teacher preparedness, unresolved questions in assessment, fluctuating learner motivation, and the demands of intercultural competence. The article highlights the disruptive and revealing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on educational access, as well as the emerging influence of artificial intelligence on language pedagogy. Drawing on research in applied linguistics, educational policy, and intercultural communication, the article argues that addressing these challenges requires flexible, context-sensitive, learner-centered approaches that balance global demands with local realities. The discussion concludes by emphasizing that meeting these challenges is essential to building equitable and effective language education for a rapidly changing world.
