AMICAS Patient Simulator (AMICASim v01.2026)

Abstract

Get ready to enhance your medical and engineering training with the updated patient simulator, now available for download. The simulator reproduces clinically relevant conditions during general anesthesia, including nociceptive stimulation represented by surgical disturbance profiles. It includes two virtual patient populations—young and elderly—enabling the investigation of both intra- and inter-patient variability. In addition, a clinically derived patient profile and surgical stimulus profile from the VitalDB database are provided to support evaluation under realistic conditions. Key features of the updated simulator include: Three response-surface models characterizing the interaction between propofol and remifentanil. Two literature-derived surgical disturbance profiles. A VitalDB-derived patient parameter profile and surgical stimulus profile. The influence of cardiac output (CO) on the bispectral index (BIS). The nociception level (NOL) index as a nociception-related output. Physiologically and clinically relevant limits for simulator inputs and outputs. Model adaptation and disturbance-estimation algorithms.
